The Dr. James L. Moore III (JLM) Scholars Program is a transfer pathway initiative designed to support Columbus State Community College (CSCC) students with the greatest financial need as they transition to The Ohio State University (Ohio State). The program identifies highly qualified CSCC students and provides comprehensive transitional support through peer mentoring, financial assistance, academic guidance, and access to key campus resources. These supports are designed to promote a successful transfer experience, foster a sense of belonging, and help scholars achieve timely degree completion.
Program Benefits
- Financial Support: Receive up to four semesters of scholarship support, the first as a continuing Weiler Scholar before transitioning to three semesters support by the JLM Scholars Program. There is also an opportunity to receive an additional one-time scholarship to support experiential learning opportunities.
- Transition Support: Experience a seamless transition from CSCC to Ohio State through coordinated outreach before transfer, personalized support from dedicated staff, and early engagement opportunities, including participation in a welcome event prior to the start of classes.
- Holistic Support: Access to comprehensive support through one-on-one success coaching, financial literacy education, wellness resources, and career development programming.
- Peer-to-Peer Support: Participate in a structured mentorship opportunity that pairs new scholars with experienced scholars who have successfully navigated their first two terms at Ohio State.
- Community Engagement: Build social capital and a strengthen sense of belonging by participating in monthly social, informational, and networking events designed to foster meaningful connections within the university community.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant Status: Applicants must be CSCC Weiler Scholar recipients and apply during their first academic term at Ohio State.
- GPA Requirement: Minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA at CSCC.
- Enrollment Status: Must enroll full-time (12+ credit hours) at Ohio State's Columbus campus.
- Financial Need: Must demonstrate high financial aid need, as verified by completion of the FAFSA.
Program Requirements
- Continued Enrollment: Maintain full-time enrollment (12+ credit hours) each semester.
- Academic Standing: Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
- Active Participation: Attend required one-on-one success coaching sessions, as well as regularly scheduled social and informational events. Scholars must also attend Preview Day or another designated Welcome Event prior to the start of the semester.
- Mentorship Commitment: Participate as a mentee during your first year, then transition into a mentor role in the second year to support incoming scholars.
